About Our Practice.

MindStream Integrative Medicine is a full spectrum integrative medicine and primary care practice. We service clients from 9 months of age and up, offering both standard screenings such as breast and cervical screenings, along with deeper investigations and inquiries through the lens of integrative medicine. We work with people to deepen, broaden, coordinate, and connect various information streams and collect additional data to help understand and improve health.

MindStream has all of the tools of a medical practice, including prescribing medications, ordering labs and radiology tests, and coordinating care with specialty providers. In addition, MindStream engages with botanicals, movement, and a robust network of skillful health practitioners in the area to accomplish patient's goals. MindStream excels in situations where there is not enough time or capacity to accomplish more complex care coordination or data integration. Learn more about MindStream in our Practice FAQ.

LEARN MORE ABOUT
Amy Price Neff, MD

Dr. Price Neff is a native Tennessean who grew up in Memphis. As a kid, in addition to an obsession with horses, Amy loved cycling, running and medicine. She was very fortunate to have a biologist for a father, who worked in medical research and facilitated her early interests in immunology and cell biology. After attending UT Knoxville, where she did her undergraduate work in Neuroanatomy, she went to medical school at UT Memphis. Amy did her residency in Charlottesville, Virginia at the University of Virginia in the Department of Family Medicine where she also did a Fellowship in Faculty Development and focused on community mental health. At the time, the most interesting questions in healthcare for Amy were the lack of access to care for the uninsured and underinsured.

During their time in Norfolk, Amy and Eric opened a butcher shop called Pendulum Fine Meats with their neighbors, Dylan and Dana Wakefield. Amy taught cooking classes to medical students and hosted community events to discuss meat, diets and health, animal welfare, and food systems. Interested in farming, food systems, and the intersection of regenerative agriculture and eaters, the Neffs began a journey in farming that continues in Nashville.

Moving to Nashville in 2015, Dr. Price Neff took time off to be a mom to their 3 daughters and worked very part-time at the University School of Nashville, where their oldest attended school. She continued to farm, raising sheep and began a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the celebrated Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. In 2018, she started practicing again, meeting her wonderful coworkers, Tyna Barzee and Lauren Clanton. Together they continue to engage deeply with the patients with whom they walk.

Dr. Price Neff began working with the Chopra Foundation in 2021 as a medical provider of Ayurvedic Consults for their Perfect Health retreats held twice a month at Civana in Carefree, Arizona. She continues to study Ayurveda as well as deep inquiries into the microbiome, cancer metabolism, nutrition, mindfulness, medications and the mind, autoimmunity and the clinical questions that come up in daily practice. Additionally, Dr. Neff serves on the advisory board of the Southeast Coalition of Psychedelic Practitioners. For all of us at MindStream, the excitement that comes from continuous learning is one of the most precious fuels for practice.

Throughout her career, Tyna has had the opportunity to work with some amazing physicians in various fields of medicine, including primary care, dermatology, allergy, internal medicine, weight loss, and nephrology. She has filled the role of a medical assistant, scrub technician, and phlebotomist and also taught within the Medical Assisting Program at the former Draughon’s Junior College in Nashville, TN for four years. Teaching is one of Tyna’s greatest joys. It was an honor to provide information to individuals and assist them in starting their career in the field of medical assisting.

In 2013, her career path partially changed as she was faced with a health crisis affecting her husband Through the diagnostic process, western medicine was not providing the answers. A good friend introduced Tyna to an essential oil and supplement company. Using these natural products, the condition of her husband improved dramatically. After this, Tyna became very interested in knowing why the products worked and decided to return to school to get a degree in Complementary Alternative Medicine.

Tyna received a degree in Complementary Alternative Medicine in the Spring of 2019 from The American College of Health Care Sciences in Portland, Oregon. Along with this training she became a Registered Aromatherapist and Herbalist.

In the Spring of 2021, Tyna was certified as a Reflexologist from Nashville Academy of Reflexology and as an Iridologist with the International Iridology Association.

For the past 5 years Tyna has been working with Dr. Amy Price Neff. Together they share a vision for a wellness center where individuals will be able to receive a variety of holistic modalities to become the healthiest they can be.

Tyna now works as a refloxologist and iridologist, as well as a phlebotomist and nurse at Mindstream. When not in the office, Tyna enjoys time with her husband and fur babies, Jasmine and Charly. As much as possible she also spends time with her 5 children and their families. Tyna also enjoys cooking, crocheting, sewing, learning new things, gardening and being in nature, especially near any waterfall.

Since then, she has practiced in various acute care specialties as a travel nurse at academic hospitals in San Diego, Seattle, and Denver.

Cindy came to MindStream hungry to make a greater impact on the wellness of her community. In the hospital environment, she often found that she and her team did not have the time or the tools to give patients the individualized care that they deserved, or to help them manifest the lifestyle changes that they so desperately needed. Cindy believes deeply in the value of an integrative approach, where attention can be given to all parts of the individual, and more consideration afforded to pillars like nutrition, mental health, and movement.

In her free time, Cindy loves to connect with nature through running, rock climbing, working in her vegetable garden, and experimenting with food fermentation. Cindy is passionate about fitness and movement, and is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She has completed a certificate program in medicinal plants from Cornell University and is trained as a wilderness first responder.

Practice FAQ

While MindStream doesn't take insurance, we are able to use your insurance for lab and radiology studies depending on your coverage. We provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurer for office visits, but you are required to pay for those at the time of service. We are also able to provide referrals to other local providers and coordinate with your specialists when necessary.

Some clients use MindStream for primary care (we are able to perform well-woman exams, well-man exams, and all traditional health maintenance exams for adults), but many opt to have a PCP who takes their insurance for those exams and then come to us for more in-depth healthspan activities. We are usually able to provide same day appointments for sick care, either in person or telehealth. Patients are encouraged to contact the office with questions (unless it's a medical emergency, in which you're encouraged to call 911) where our staff can help in the decision making around the need for a higher level of care.

We offer on site lab testing using PathGroup but we can also order through LabCorp and Quest for traditional labs. MindStream also offers functional medicine testing through a variety of vendors. We have offer many tests, including the GI-Map, Boston Heart Diagnostics, DUTCH testing, OralDNA, and many more. We provide individualized review of these tests along with treatment and follow up recommendations.

Being a patient at MindStream starts with a thorough history along with identifying a person's goals or immediate needs. At the first visit, if you have labs available, we can review those and consider additional testing if that is indicated. Typically after a first visit, and any additional testing, we have a follow up visit to review everything and identify strategies to achieve the goals and tactics that are acceptable to the patient. As a full-spectrum office, we are able to do pap tests and general health screenings, so some features of a traditional practice apply at MindStream, but people generally experience it as a slower paced environment.

Patients with autoimmune conditions need nutritional guidance and support, lab assessments, and occasional functional medicine tests to help understand ways to lower inflammation and reduce symptoms or progression. We also understand that one autoimmune condition is a risk factor for another, so surveillance, screenings, and preventive measures are a large part of our practice.

We see patients with mood symptoms and assess for general medical conditions that often cause these symptoms or imbalances in a person’s constitution that can exacerbate mood symptoms. We participate in regular trainings to deepen our skillsets with somatic and trauma informed therapies. Our practice can support patients who need support for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, trauma, and dissociative disorders.

MindStream helps to support patients living with a cancer diagnosis to prevent recurrence using metabolic approaches to cancer. We use Jane McLelland’s approach and seek to partner with a patient’s oncology care team to support well-researched metabolic approaches that may not be provided in the traditional setting.

MindStream is able to use and interpret tests that assess the gut microbiome, hormone analysis and other functional medicine tests, and offers practical, evidence-based approaches to conditions such as hormone therapy, dysbiosis, toxin exposures, and neuroinflammation.

MindStream is eager to help patients coordinate care or navigate the health system. If you are interested in this, we provide that on a case-by-case basis.

MindStream has providers who are trained in psychiatric care, family medicine, integrative medicine, health coaching, aromatherapy, reflexology, iridology, Ayurvedic approaches, mindfulness meditation and we continuously training to deepen our skillset for our patients. We regularly work with behavioralists, chiropractors, specialists, and coaches to improve our patients outcomes.

In general, MindStream is not available after our posted business hours. Like most primary care practices, we ask that you seek emergency or urgent care if you need assistance after hours. We can often offer same day appointments for patients needing a sick visit if there is a provider available. We ask your patience, as you may not see your usual provider. We do not shorten patient appointments to accommodate add-ons (you may appreciate that!). Sick visits can be in person or telehealth.

Ketamine is a powerful catalyst that may help provide energy for change or reduce inner barriers to change. By working within the carefully curated container at MindStream, clients receive preparation, integration and medicine session support that helps anchor the awarenesses that arrive using this approach.
