Integrative Oncology at MindStream: A Personalized Approach to Cancer Care

At MindStream Integrative Medicine, we believe the most important part of a cancering experience is self-empowerment. Our approach is centered on helping patients understand their options, build a strong care team, and step into the role of CEO of their own health. Being at the helm of one’s own health doesn’t require being an expert in cancer—but it does require being an expert in one’s own self. Our mission is to support patients in creating their own self-led board of directors, guiding them to ask the right questions, make informed decisions, and take control of their healing journey.

Dr. Amy Price Neff, founder of MindStream Integrative Medicine, is now certified in integrative oncology through the MATC Terrain Network, a program developed by leading expert Dr. Nasha Winters and the Metabolic Terrain Institute of Health. This certification allows us to offer a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that blends conventional cancer treatments with integrative therapies to enhance healing, improve quality of life, and support long-term wellness.

Additionally, Cindy Jones, BSN, RN, is completing her certification as a Certified Advanced Integrative Metabolic Specialist through the Metabolic Terrain Institute of Health. This advanced training focuses on metabolic, nutritional, and lifestyle interventions to support cancer patients in treatment and remission. Working alongside Dr. Neff, Cindy will help guide patients through personalized strategies, including nutritional counseling, metabolic testing, and therapeutic interventions to optimize healing and recovery.

What is Integrative Oncology?

Integrative oncology combines standard cancer treatments—such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation—with complementary therapies designed to enhance the body’s ability to heal, reduce side effects, and optimize treatment outcomes. This approach does not replace conventional care but works alongside it to improve patient resilience and overall well-being.

Rather than simply targeting cancer cells, integrative oncology focuses on the patient’s entire biological terrain, addressing key areas such as:

  • Metabolic Health – Managing blood sugar, insulin, and inflammation to create an internal environment that is less hospitable to cancer.
  • Gut & Immune Function – Strengthening gut health and immune resilience to support the body’s natural defenses.
  • Detoxification & Toxin Reduction – Assisting the body in clearing harmful substances that may contribute to cancer growth.
  • Inflammation & Oxidative Stress – Reducing chronic inflammation and supporting antioxidant pathways to protect healthy cells.
  • Emotional & Mental Well-being – Addressing stress, trauma, and mindset as key factors in healing.

By targeting The Terrain Ten™—a framework developed by Dr. Nasha Winters that examines ten key factors influencing cancer progression—we help patients create an internal environment that promotes healing rather than disease.

Who Can Benefit from Integrative Oncology?

Our approach supports a wide range of patients at different stages of their cancer journey:

  • Patients currently in treatment looking for options to augment their current approach through diet, movement, mental health support, or complementary therapies to improve treatment tolerance.
  • Patients recovering from treatment who want to rebuild strength, resilience, and metabolic health to improve long-term outcomes.
  • Individuals with advanced or metastatic cancer seeking symptom relief, improved quality of life, and integrative strategies to support their care.
  • Individuals focused on cancer prevention who have a family history or high-risk factors and want to be proactive.
  • Caregivers looking for ways to support a loved one’s healing process with an integrative, compassionate approach.

How Integrative Oncology at MindStream Supports Patients

Supporting Conventional Cancer Treatments

  • We work alongside medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and surgeons.
  • We help patients tolerate chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy with fewer side effects.
  • We offer guidance on nutritional and lifestyle changes to improve treatment outcomes and overall health.

Reducing Side Effects & Enhancing Resilience

  • We use natural therapies to address nausea, fatigue, neuropathy, pain, digestive issues, and cognitive changes (“chemo brain”).
  • We incorporate mind-body techniques to reduce stress and anxiety. MindStream offers restorative yoga, monthly wellness classes, and integrative mental health treatments, including ketamine-assisted therapy, which has been studied in cancer-related depression and PTSD.

Personalized Nutrition & Metabolic Support

  • We develop evidence-based nutrition strategies based on cancer type, such as anti-inflammatory, ketogenic, Mediterranean, or fasting-mimicking diets.
  • We assess nutritional deficiencies (e.g., vitamin D, omega-3s) that may impact treatment and recovery.
  • We focus on gut health strategies to support digestion, immune function, and systemic inflammation reduction.

Botanical & Natural Medicine

  • We use scientifically backed botanicals and supplements to enhance treatment or reduce toxicity. Examples include:
    • Curcumin & Green Tea Extract (EGCG) – Supports chemotherapy efficacy and has anti-inflammatory properties.
    • Mistletoe Therapy – Used in European oncology for immune modulation and quality of life improvement.
    • Mushroom Extracts (Reishi, Turkey Tail) – Supports immune function and resilience.

Mind-Body & Stress Reduction Techniques

  • We offer meditation, guided imagery, and breathwork to regulate the nervous system.
  • We provide mental health support for stress, anxiety, and depression, integrating hyperthermia, IV therapy, and ketamine-assisted therapy when appropriate.

Lifestyle Medicine & Exercise

  • Exercise improves quality of life and cancer-related health outcomes. We create tailored fitness programs to maintain strength, reduce fatigue, and improve mental health.
  • We support healthy circadian rhythms for better sleep, mood, and hormone balance.

Detoxification & Environmental Medicine

  • We help patients identify and reduce toxic exposures (e.g., heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, plastics).
  • We support liver function and detox pathways during and after cancer treatment.

Post-Treatment & Survivorship Planning

  • We focus on immune function optimization, metabolic health, and inflammation reduction to lower recurrence risk.
  • We help patients rebuild long-term hormonal balance and gut microbiome health post-treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does working with an integrative oncology team mean I can’t receive traditional cancer treatments?

No, we do not require or recommend stopping standard care. We work alongside traditional oncology teams, helping patients gather the best information and make informed decisions.

How often do patients see the team at MindStream?

This varies. Some patients come weekly for ongoing treatments like IV therapy, while others check in monthly or quarterly for long-term guidance.

Will insurance cover integrative oncology visits?

We do not take insurance for visits but can provide a superbill for potential reimbursement. Labs are billed through insurance, but integrative therapies like high-dose vitamin C IV, mistletoe therapy, and red light therapy are out-of-pocket expenses.
